Thanks for the comment Dave. I thought it was barbed wire too, and then I read Halliday who says “Incidentally, the illustration on the Pondalowie label is not a piece of barbed wire, but a very abstract representation of the winery kelpie dog.” Very abstract me thinks. I then turn to my fiance (an architect) and I ask her what she thinks the label is. Without missing a beat she says “a dog”.

Are there any other Australian Tempranillo you recommend trying?

The picture is barbed wire isn’t it? Anyway I haven’t tried the 06 yet, but it sounds like its up to it usual high standards. Thanks for the note.

Hello from Philadelphia! I was just enjoying this wine and decided to google it because I was so impressed. After all it was a somewhat random pick in my local store. My expert friend cannot stop talking about Australian wines so I’ve been working my way through. Thanks for your blog!

You’ll be interested to know that the Pegasus Bay contains a small amount of botrytis… Gives it that mouthfeel. That and it’s about 1/3 new oak!
